Welcoming new users is an important task for gnomes. As a gnome some of your edits will be the first edits to content that has been contributed by new users. How you edit their content will set the tone for their first experience on the wiki.

davisWelcome to the Wiki on davisdaviswiki is one example of a community generated tool for welcoming new users. Another example derived from DavisWiki is the [WWW]OnePaper Community Introduction. Both are CC-By, so feel free to adapt them to use on your wiki. Often it will be linked in the first comment left on a user page.

Deleting Comments

Welcome to the Wiki! Thanks for adding the information about when the store opens and closes. We try not to delete comments left by other users, instead why don't you explain why you disagree with their claims?

Hello, ((name of user)), and welcome to the Wiki! You made some recent edits to ((business entry)) that were reversed as they removed quite a few comments. You might want to read the wiki guide for business owners to get a feel for what might be more constructive in the future. Read it, and stick around; many businesses have found that the wiki provides them a great service.
